Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Fuck the shills writing "good" reviews on Wonder Woman 1984. It's not a good movie. Goofy in the wrong places, it also tries to pack a "beware of false prophets (in the era of Trump)" message while stranding it's superhero elements. On the plus side the chemistry between Chris Pine and Gal Gadot is very present and completely works as a love story. I could watch a well written, quirky mystery, action, romantic film with them for hours. But this is Wonder Woman, the superhero movie and not a early 2000s romantic romp. I am not a snob. I understand that one genre of film could be many and all things but it also has to be passionate, contain proper pacing, good writing and be well-grounded in some form of reality. Kristen Wiig is not bad as "Cheetah" but is not given much to do. I would also like to see her in more complex anti hero / villain roles which I think she could excel at. Pedro Pascal is also very good and having fun as "Maxwell Lord" but again his character is not a fully well-written villain but instead is a caricature of a character and becomes a dud in the end. Another problem which was also a problem with the first film- Gal Gadot. Gadot is a very limited actress, she hampers her character and the film. Basically all involve act rings around her and with the titled character needing to be one of the strongest components, her acting never allows any real pathos or intensity. Which should be in the toolbox of any movie and also helps balance humor or goofiness. Being able to throw a punch, run, jump or fly can make a superhero be but not make a superhero great. Unfortunately, Wonder Woman 1984 is not great.
