Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)

Frankly, these MCU "Phase Four" productions have lacked intensity and focus. Thor: Love and Thunder should had been the gateway introduction of Beta Ray Bill, Galactus and the Fanatic Four. Nothing here seems to help fortify an overall arc to the other films in the "Universe." The humor which was to a benefit in Ragnarok is now detrimental, spoiling what should have been an exciting mix of character drama and adventure. Instead, the variables consistently clash and negate the sadness and tension this piece seem to require in immediate amounts. Marvel (again) wastes another comparable villain and the acting talent of Christian Bale. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman are very good as is the remaining cast (although Russell Crowe's "Greek" accent- yikes!) but the film begins to go flat- feeling more like a Marvel, Disney PLUS show than a theatrical release. How the villain and "new" Thor came to be (which I thought would be cringe, weren't) and scenes where Mjölnir and Stormbreaker fade in and out of Thor's vision like opposing "other" women were very funny. Visually Love and Thunder looks great especially towards the second half as our group of heroes travel to the "Shadow Realm" but my problem with the film is Thor himself. Thor appears to have somewhat reverted into the careless, spoiled dolt of the earlier entries and the look is painful to watch over a decade into the series. For a minor joke sure but as the embodiment of an entire character? No. The pieces are still there to make an excellent continuation as a fifth and possibly final entry.
